How will the second Gotthard tunnel be built?

The Gotthard tunnel is showing its age and needs to be renovated. A second tube is being built so that travel through the mountain is not blocked during the multi-year renovation work. The first cars should travel through the 16.9-kilometre-long tunnel in 2029. Udo Oppliger is the overall project manager. 200 people are currently working on the new tube. “SRF” provides an insight into the project and introduces those involved.
