The drill head of the tunnel boring machine (TBM) has a diameter of 12.26 metres. It rotates 4 to 5 times per minute and works its way through the rock at a rate of between 15 and 20 metres each day. Two TBMs are drilling through the mountain from the north and south and are scheduled to meet in the middle in June 2027.
