A2 Second Gotthard tube

The tunnel profile is circular. Drainage pipes located in the tunnel floor collect water from the mountain and drain it away. Prefabricated elements are being used to create two service ducts in which people can walk. These house pipes and cables. The lines, cables and optical fibres required for operations are located in one of the service ducts. These are part of the tunnel's equipment and are used to supply it with power and extinguishing water as well as for communication purposes. The second service duct is home to cables belonging to third parties, including a power line to replace the existing overhead line that runs over the Gotthard Pass.
