The two information centres in Airolo and Göschenen give you an exciting insight into the project and the construction work. Each centre stages an interesting multimedia exhibition and has fun activities for young and old. Here you can learn all about the construction of the tunnel and what it means for the region. You’ll discover what it takes to build a tunnel and which people are involved in the construction work.
The Göschenen information centre is located directly next to the station, in the premises of the former station buffet. Admission is free and there is no need to book. However, we recommend that groups of 10 or more book in advance.
Summer opening hours (1 April–14 October)
Wednesday, 1–5pm
Friday, 1–5pm
Saturday, 9am–5pm
Winter opening hours (15 October–31 March)

The extensive multimedia exhibition on the second Gotthard tunnel is also being staged at the Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne. In order to bring the construction-site feeling to life in Lucerne, a replica safety gallery has been built, which uses audio guides to illustrate the processes and safety precautions taken during tunnel construction. Another key exhibit is the detailed model of a tunnel boring machine, which is one of the technical masterpieces of tunnel construction, at 150 metres long and 12 metres in diameter.
